Lecture and case-based teaching in the pathophysiology, recognition and advanced life support assessment and management of emergencies involving the nervous, endocrine, renal, and gastrointestinal systems. Assessment and intervention in psychological emergencies.
EMS-677 Special Patient Populations for the Paramedic
This course is required for completion of Hawkeye's Paramedic Education Program. Special Patient Populations for the Paramedic explores illness and injury in the obstetric/gynecologic, neonatal, pediatric, geriatric, and chronically ill patient populations.
EMS-619 Patient Assessment & Airway Management for the Paramedic-
This course includes assessment and management of respiratory emergencies, advanced airway management, physical assessment, field assessment, clinical decision making, and documentation. The lab component includes skills in airway management and ventilation, history taking, techniques of physical exam, patient assessment, and AHA ACLS components.
EMS-674 Cardiac Emergencies for the Paramedic- Hawkeye Community College
Cardiology for the paramedic focused on assessing the prehospital cardiac patient, interpreting electrocardiograms, and formulating treatment regimens for these patients. ACLS provider was incorporated into this course.
EMS-671 Pathophysiology and Pharmacology for the Paramedic
Hawkeye Community College
Describe the pathophysiology of common patient disorders encountered by paramedics in the pre-hospital setting, Prepare the learner to apply concepts of pharmacology to the assessment and management of patients.
Provide the knowledge and skills required to initiate IV access/therapy and administer medications in the paramedic scope of practice.
EMS-678 Trauma Emergencies for Paramedic - Hawkeye Community College
Traumatic Emergencies for the Paramedic explores the science of traumatic injuries, their detection and treatment. Major topics include: soft tissue, shock, hard tissue, nervous system, and internal injuries.
EMS-641 Introduction to Paramedicene - Hawkeye Community College
This course provides an overview of paramedic roles and responsibilities and the emergency medical service system. Includes discussion of medicolegal and ethical issues in EMS, agents of trauma and disease, and career opportunities for paramedics. Provides discussion and demonstration of proper documentation in EMS, emergency vehicle operations, and non-patient care aspects of EMS
EMS-201 EMT Hawkeye Community College
This course is designed to instruct a student to the level of emergency medical technician who serves as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. Southeastern Community College's training program follows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Department of Transportation (DOT) EMT-curriculum. This course includes all skills necessary for the individual to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service.
EMS-201 Emergency Medical Technician -Southeastern Community College
This course is designed to instruct a student to the level of emergency medical technician who serves as a vital link in the chain of the health care team. Southeastern Community College's training program follows the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Department of Transportation (DOT) EMT-curriculum. This course includes all skills necessary for the individual to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service.

This course provides an overview to fire protection; career opportunities in fire protection and related fields; philosophy and history of fire protection/service; fire loss analysis; organization and function of public and private fire protection services; fire departments as part of local government; laws and regulations affecting the fire service; fire service nomenclature; specific fire protection functions; basic fire chemistry and physics; introduction to fire protection systems; introduction to fire strategy and tactics.

This course prepares the student in the knowledge and skills needed in the pre-hospital environment. National Standard Paramedic Curriculum topics covered include: Well-being of the EMT, Illness and Injury Prevention, Ethics, EMS System, Roles and Responsibilities, Medical Legal Issues, Pathophysiology, Therapeutic Communications, Life-span Development, Airway Management and Ventilation, Patient Assessment, Communications, Documentation, Medication Administration, Pharmacology and Cardiology. Lab skills addressed include patient assessment, development of airway management skills, IV fluid management skills, communication skill development and cardiac monitoring skills.
EMS664- Paramedic II- Southeastern Community College
This course prepares the student in the knowledge and skills needed in the pre-hospital environment. National Standard Paramedic Curriculum topics covered include: Medication Administration and Medical and Trauma Emergencies of various body systems. This course has a hospital clinical internship. This internship provides the opportunity to apply, in the clinical setting, the didactic knowledge and skills developed in the classroom and lab. It serves to assist the student to become an employable EMS provider. Clinical skills addressed include trauma management, patient assessment and evaluation, airway management skills, IV fluid management skills, communication skill development, and cardiac monitoring skills.
EMS665- Paramedic III- Southeastern Community College
This course prepares the student for entry into the workplace as an entry level ALS provider. Participants complete a field internship and clinical rotations to meet the requirements set forth by the DOT for paramedic education guidelines. Workforce readiness, review for national exams, and skills competency assessments are part of this course.
