About Me

With a rich background spanning emergency services, healthcare, and adult education, I bring a unique blend of expertise and experience to the table. My journey began in 1996 as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. It evolved over 28 years into a career as a firefighter/EMS provider and EMS educator. Notably, I have spent 16 years specializing as a critical care provider and flight paramedic, contributing to my in-depth understanding of critical care.

Complementing my field experience, I have dedicated 18 years to the Iowa Community College system. I have excelled as an educator, program leader, and instructional designer. Within this realm, I have developed and delivered credit and continuing education courses in allied health and career tech programs. I leverage my proficiency in learning management systems and software.

I am proudly a product of Iowa's community college system. I hold an Associate Degree in Emergency Medical Services from Southeastern Community College, alongside a Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences and a Master's Degree in Adult Education and Training. Notably, I have spearheaded the accreditation process for two community college paramedic training programs and served as an accreditation site visitor for CoAEMSP, reinforcing my commitment to advancing EMS education standards.

My current roles include Full-time faculty and EMS Program Director for Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa, a Critical Care Paramedic at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I am also a freelance content writer and contributor of EMS and the FP-C exam prep/review for Pocket Prep.
